Artist's Comments

It's pretty clear that Apple left no stone unturned in Leopard, making changes and fixes throughout the new operating system. Unfortunately, that also included an upgrade to its crucial smugness subsystem: an image of an old school CRT monitor with a blue screen of death is actually the not-so-subtle gag icon Leopard uses to represent Windows machines on your local network. (Is it any wonder why PC and Mac fanboys tend to get in so many fights?) Granted, many Leopard beta users have seen this icon since the early releases, but many didn't actually think the shipping version would include something so pompous and galling to the other 90%.

Here's how to replace it....

Rename this icon to public .generic-pc. icns (with no spaces)
Replace the one already existing at:

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/public.generic-pc.icns

Make a backup if desired.

Q.: What do Unix sysadmins do when they're horny?
A.: Mount a filesystem.

Yup the BSOD is the out of the box default icon for a Windows machine on a network. Funny but kinda low brow tacky.

Nice retouch. It looks great in Windows.

What did you use to convert it out of curiosity?
:iconyzal:
I use Axialis IconWorkshop. It is a pay program (though I have alternate ways if paying ;)) that can convert and create icons for either platform. It's the best icon program that I have used over the years. [link]

The BSOD is a bit of a well deserved slap to all those smug DOSBox™ users.

Maybe a screen showing Solitaire would be more accurate.
That silly landscape and cloudy sky desktop picture is so suburban, so medicated.

Nice icon!

BTW: Mac is NOT and acronym. Mac is short for Macintosh. :thumb88332975:
